I was at the Bellanvilla temple last night, photographing the perahara when I got a chance to take this photograph of two elephants being brought to the temple premises. Yesterday was the second day so there weren’t many elephants taking part. It’s usually on the third day that most elephants arrive for the perahara. So I’m off again to hopefully get some photographs of elephants.

These photographs were taken at the Bellanwila temple a couple of weeks back while most of the elephants were being bathed in preparation for the perahara.

A young elephant, taking part in the perahara.

This elephant was misbehaving, so the mahouts had to punish it buy tying it up in a pretty uncomfortable position. One of the mahouts’ who was talking to us was saying that its extremely important to show the elephant that the mahout is always in total control, else it’ll just kill him.
