I was at the Bellanvilla temple last night, photographing the perahara when I got a chance to take this photograph of two elephants being brought to the temple premises. Yesterday was the second day so there weren’t many elephants taking part. It’s usually on the third day that most elephants arrive for the perahara. So I’m off again to hopefully get some photographs of elephants.
I spent this years Vesak at BMICH, where the Light of Asia foundation together with the National Film Corporation and BMICH organized a Buddhist Film Festival for the second consecutive year. The aim of the festival was to showcase local and foreign films with a Buddhist theme. Anyone could walk in off the street and watch these films being shown on projectors at the BMICH grounds.

Checked the blog stats this morning and I seem to be getting allot of hits for Alliance Francaise. So I thought I’d upload this picture of the gallery and auditorium at Alliance Francaise Colombo. This was taken for the Leisure Times magazine for a feature on art galleries in Colombo. Think this should be fitting for this weeks post with all the talk about the Colombo Art Biennale.

A couple of friends are organizing a masquerade party titled “La Masquerade” on 3rd September at Shine. Formerly known as “Clancy’s” or I think Clancy’s is now above Shine. I’m not really sure about that, haven’t been that way in ages. Any ways these two broke into my house and refused to leave until I made them a banner and a video. So in a bid get rid of them and get back to my life, I came-up with these two.

This is Samantha. I took this photo when I was sent by the Leisure Times to photograph the gallery at Alliance Francaise in Colombo last October. He wanted to sell me his Nikon F5 along with a flash gun for ten thousand rupees. Unfortunately I didn’t have that kind of cash on me so I had to decline, but I did promise him I’d send anyone who wanted a film camera his way. Though it has been close to seven months since I met him and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have had much trouble selling it for such a low price.
BTW, I did some checking up on the F5 on eBay and Amazon, and the cheapest I could find cost 40k with shipping to Sri Lanka. Hmm, may be I should have borrowed the 10k from a friend. But, given the cost of film, I never would have used it.
