Horse, Nuwara Eliya

This photograph was taken outside the Nuwara Eliya race course as I passed through on my way to Horton Planes. I took this back in January when I went on a road trip with my friends. The plan was to go from Colombo to Kandy, and from there to Segiriya and Horton Planes, and back to Colombo via Diyathalawa in five days.

I’ve posted some of the photographs from Horton Planes and Segiriya on some of my earlier posts. May be I’ll write a full account of the trip time permitting.

These pictures are from the Horton Planes part of our road trip. I thought I’d edit them in black and white since it was pretty misty and dull most of the time during our stay there, and it gave the pictures a bit of a spooky feel. Not that Horton planes was spooky, although there are stories about how the planes are haunted by the ghosts of some girls who were murdered and buried there during the colonial days. But they didn’t bother paying us a visit.

The night before, or actually the morning before we were to set off for Segiriya. We arrived in Kandy at around 2A.M and checked into the hotel. After getting settled in, we decided that it was pointless going to sleep because we were to leave in a couple of hours anyway. So to kill time the four of us started playing monopoly. A decision we kind of regretted, because we wouldn’t get much sleep the following night as well. Thanks to some friends in Kandy who wanted to treat us to some Kandyan hospitality, which ended up turning into quite a wild night. Sorry, no pictures from that. :D Guess it’s one of those decisions we’ll all end up thinking back on once we’re much wiser (hopefully) and say to ourselves “Man we were retarded”. But for now, we’re simply young and stupid.

Well back to the road trip.  When we first planed the trip, Segiriya didn’t really come up. We were going to stay in Kandy for two nights before moving onto Horton Planes. But on our way to Kandy, we decided to visit Segiriya on our free day.

Oh, I’ve gone back to the old picture size because my theme starts acting funny when I post landscape pics in the large size. So until I move out of the free wordpress account, I’ll be uploading in medium.

Constructed so that only one person could pass though it at a time, so that in case of an enemy attack, it would be easier for the defenders to pick them off one at a time.

Back in January I went on a road trip with some friends. It was a bit of a crazy trip. We were to stay in Kandy for a couple of days but on our way to Kandy we decided to visit Segiriya. A slight unplanned detour in a trip where nothing went as planned.

I’ll upload more pics from the trip when I get a chance to edit them. Until then, these are the fair maidens of Segiriya.
